Artist: Scot Drake This is my first attempt to record one of my photoshop sketches. It was an experiment and it was fun. I think that this is a good drill for all artists. It makes you critique and evaluate your own processes and decisions. We have been remodeling the house and I could not decide on what to hang. This may not be right either, but it was a good excuse to finish a high res piece of art for fun. My wife requested a peaceful landscape. I will be printing this on canvas about 55" wide. We will see how it looks in the space. This was a fun little "de-stress" painting that I created last night. There is not a lot of "there" there in the concept, but it was a nice exercise. I have been trying to find a good balance of natural world and sci-fi. I enjoy seeing visions of the future that are optimistic, but they seem to miss the drama that a dogfight between concept spaceships ripping through the middle of the piece, an invasion of a robot army or an alien...  This was a drawing that I did for my father this past weekend for Fathers day. He has always been a race fan so I think he should like this. It has been a while since I have created a new speed painting. I decided to press record and see what happened. It is obviously not a well thought out concept, but I wanted to show depth in a scene with a complexity of scale that was represented by using composition, perspective, atmosphere, and indicated details. Between the unreal deadlines that are racing toward me at the office, a Mothers day weekend, and the fact that I started P90x this week, it needed to get done and I had to fit this in after a grueling workout. being a designer/artist means that I dont get away from my computer or out of meetings very often so I am extremely sore...  This week was was all about ideation and quick sketching at work. Well that and a lot of meetings and presentations, but when I was drawing, it was fast and loose. This weeks pin-up was an exploration in taking this technique of pushing and pulling value to create silhouettes and forms. The interesting thing that I find with this technique is that the more you work on it, the more you lose the energy of the original paint strokes and gesture. I like...
