Of course you can do it in other ways too. This is just the way I like to do it ^^ A quick demonstration about the differences between Tria- and Pro-markers from Letraset. They both have the same ink but different design, I use them both when I do my drawings. This is the way I sketch before colouring and shading. One freehand way and one using a grid. Recommend HD viewing to see the thin lines! The person I'm sketching is a Swedish blogger named Kenza. http://kenzas.se/ The coloring of the sketch will come as a time-lapse later!Of course you can sketch it in other ways. But this is the way I like to work. I hope it can be of some help for someone ^^ This week I travelled to New York on a business trip. I was a very inspiring trip, even if it doesnt reflect in this piece. The first night I was having a drink at a bar and looked up at some of the images on the walls and there were all these models putting on make-up. It was head shots, but I could see the pin-up potential. The next night I went to see the Adams Family on Broadway, which was not that great, but I thought I should do a goth pin-up... http://drakepin-up.com/ Having fun with this one this week. Along the way, so far in 2010, I have tried a few different approaches to the themes. I obviously like to try out different techniques as I go, but the story, or theme, or reason behind each drawing has been morphing as well. Since I have been insanely busy at work these days and my mind is constantly brainstorming new ideas and concepts for my real work, I just want to tune out and focus... This week was was all about ideation and quick sketching at work. Well that and a lot of meetings and presentations, but when I was drawing, it was fast and loose. This weeks pin-up was an exploration in taking this technique of pushing and pulling value to create silhouettes and forms. The interesting thing that I find with this technique is that the more you work on it, the more you lose the energy of the original paint strokes and gesture. I like... http://drakepin-up.com/ This was an off week. My focus was not on this at all. You can tell by the video that I struggled with the pose, the face, the overall concept, but I was able to finish. I learn something every week, whether it is good or bad. The good part about this challenge is that I know that I have to show it. There were several times during this drawing that I would have thrown it away and started over, but I did not have that much time... http://drakepin-up.com/ Inspiration and commitment got me through this week. I was put to the test this weekend. I had a bachelor party to go to this weekend in Las Vegas and zero time during the week to create a pinup. I decided to try to work on it at the pool at the Hard Rock Hotel where we had a cabana for the day. This was a crazy goal. Security at the pool could not figure out why I needed to bring in a computer bag into the pool area and I... http://drakepin-up.com/ This week had to be a quick one and I was able to create it in under an hour and fifteen minutes. Between the unreal deadlines that are racing toward me at the office, a Mothers day weekend, and the fact that I started P90x this week, it needed to get done and I had to fit this in after a grueling workout. being a designer/artist means that I dont get away from my computer or out of meetings very often so I am extremely sore...
