Interactive Pin-up 2 process by Drake Pinup
This is the second video in the Interactive Drake pin-up project. In this video, the 10 poses that were sketched out in the last episode are given some color while I reviewed the responses. #8 seemed to be the favorite. There are others that I may want to finish out, but in this video, I pushed forward on #8. It was close to Christmas when I was painting this so I was going with a "Santa's helper" look at first, then just a classy red dress, but then I got bored with her and wanted to try something else. In the spirit of interactivity, I created 4 other "looks" for this pose. Let me know your favorite.

This weeks pin-up was an exploration in taking this technique of pushing and pulling value to create silhouettes and forms. The interesting thing that I find with this technique is that the more you work on it, the more you lose the energy of the original paint strokes and gesture. I like... It is the time of year that I give a pin-up to my nephews and cousins, so this is their gift. It was fun to get back into it. I knew that this was the type of pose that I wanted to do, but had to work through it. You can tell by how many times I redrew and tried different color combinations that I was searching for what the "look" of this pose could be.... This is a painting that I created to hang in my house. We have been remodeling the house and I could not decide on what to hang. This may not be right either, but it was a good excuse to finish a high res piece of art for fun. My wife requested a peaceful landscape. I will be printing this on canvas about 55" wide. We will see how it looks in the space. I have all the excuses that anyone could have not to complete this challenge but I try to just open photoshop and start a pose. Then I am hooked. Being unmotivated and uninspired is an awful thing for any artist. After spending the week drawing and designing for my day job, it is hard to find the energy to keep this up.I hope that broadcasting this process motivates someone...
