Easy abstract painting with pallet knife and a round brush step by step tutorial
Hey guys this is Peter Dranitsin,
I am so glad that you found the time to watch one of my art video tutorials today! In this abstract painting called “Desire” I will demonstrate how easy and fun it is to create abstract art with just few simple tools and techniques. For this particular painting I am using a 20 x 20 inch stretched double primed canvas. Before I started painting, I covered the entire canvas with simply water, to make it easier for me to blend the colors on the canvas. It also helps to keep this acrylic paint moist longer. The colors I chose for this painting are: aqua green, titanium white, mars black, cad yellow, cad red, dark grey, silver, ultramarine blue and purple oxide. I know it’s a lot of colors, but you don’t have to use the same colors as I did. In your painting you can use whatever colors that makes you happy. That’s the beauty of abstract art — you have unlimited options and combinations of colors and ideas that you can utilize.
The tools that you will need for this painting are: pallet knife and round brush. I will provide all the links to paint and tools that you will need below in the video description. I must note that the pallet knife is not listed however you can simply find it anywhere online or your local art supply store when searching for it. So let’s dive in into the creation process! As I mentioned this is a very simple and fun painting to create event if you never painted before. It would be a great way for you to get familiar with different tools and ideas. The first thing that I will do is I will utilize a regular 2” brush or a round brush to add various colors to the canvas. Make sure to use a clean brush when adding different colors before mixing them together on the canvas. After we add various colors I will blend them using clean brush and after use my big pallet knife to scrape and add few other solid colors creating square and rectangular shapes. I will also use the side of my pallet knife to create black lines to divide some of the sections where the different color meets. Finally I will utilize whatever paint I have left on my pallet and using a pallet knife to gather some various colors off my pallet without worrying too much if they mix together. I will then using a gentle pressure add few more shapes using this pallet knife in any of the sections I have created.
And that is it — very simple approach with outstanding result! If the paint bleeds a little (as it did with the yellow paint in this painting) that is just great. It will add a nice variation to our abstract painting design.
I want to thank you for taking your time to watch this video and I hope you enjoyed it. Thank so much for leaving me your nice comments below my videos. I appreciate every single one of them.
