Digital Speed Painting — Helicopter Rescue — by Scot Drake
This is a demo for the Dramatic Narrative — Visual Communication 6 class that I teach at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Every week, the class receives a sentence or script that needs to be visualized into a conceptual painting. This demonstration represents the processes that can be used to isolate each of the visual requirements for a strong storytelling composition. This is a 3.5 hour demo in 3.5 minutes. Thank you for watching This is a painting that I created to hang in my house. We have been remodeling the house and I could not decide on what to hang. This may not be right either, but it was a good excuse to finish a high res piece of art for fun. My wife requested a peaceful landscape. I will be printing this on canvas about 55" wide. There is not a lot of "there" there in the concept, but it was a nice exercise. I have been trying to find a good balance of natural world and sci-fi. I enjoy seeing visions of the future that are optimistic, but they seem to miss the drama that a dogfight between concept spaceships ripping through the middle of the piece, an invasion of a robot army or an alien...
